It brings immense pride and ecstasy to see the Tricolour waving high in pride and aspiration at the Red Fort on India’s 69th Independence Day, as if suggesting that we have a long way to go towards a much brighter future in the days to come. And why not?, With a population of 125 crore Indians and more than 70% of this population below 40 years of age we are a force that change the course of this county’s destiny.

In his Independence Day address to the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort Prime Minister Narendra Modi said,

This is Team India, a team of 125 crore Indians. This is the team that makes the nation and takes our nation to new heights

With a view to boost up the Startup ecosystem of the country, PM Modi also coined a new slogan today,

Start-up India, Stand up India

He also added,

 “In the coming days, start-ups will be promoted in every corner of the country,”

He emphasized on systems to facilitate start-ups, loans will be given to help such ventures, he added. He floated the dream of creating entrepreneurs – mostly from the underprivileged sections – who will get loans as part of a movement that will change the economic landscape of the country.

All these developments look like moment of India awakening and realising its true potential- It’s people. And it definitely is, We the people of India who can take our country to great heights. On this day let’s pledge our total and whole hearted contribution to the making of India and also to making in India.

With some promising Startups already doing well, we would only wish that we see a lot more in the days to come.

We have in an effort to boost the Startup Culture Tried to enlist a few for your reference:

  • Flipkart:

Flipkart is an e-commerce company founded in 2007 by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal. With a revenue of 2846 crores in the FY 2014, this Startup venture currently employes around 33000 people.

  • Snapdeal:

Snapdeal is an online marketplace, New Delhi, India. The company was started by, a Wharton graduate as part of the dual degreeM&T Engineering and Business program at Penn, and Rohit Bansal, an alumnus of IIT Delhi in February 2010. The company has a strong employee base of 9000 currently.

  • Ola:

Ola founded on 3 December 2010 by Bhavish Aggarwal (currently CEO) and Ankit Bhati. By 2014, the company has expanded to a network of more than 200,000 cars across 85 cities.

  • Inmobi:

InMobi is a performance based mobile ad network backed by Soft Bank and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The company was founded in 2007 in India with offices in several countries.

  • Quikr:

Quikr was launched on 12 July 2008 and is currently present in 900 cities across India. Quikr provides the local community with a platform to help them buy, sell, rent and find something and address needs across many categories. These categories numbering over 12 and sub-categories over 140 range from Mobiles, real estate, cars, services, jobs, entertainment, furniture, electronics etc.

  • Housing.com:

Housing.com is a Mumbai-based real estate search portal launched in 2012 which allows customers to search for housing based on geography, number of rooms, and various other filters. The company has 6,000 brokers and serves 40 cities in India including Mumbai,Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi.

  • Shopclues.com:

ShopClues.com is an online marketplace, headquartered in Gurgaon, India. The company was founded in the Silicon Valley, USA in 2011. It has over 12,000 registered merchants retail +2,00,000 products on the platform to over 42 million visitors every year across 9500 locations  in the country.

  • Freecharge:

Freecharge was launched on 15th August 2010, Freecharge provides facility to recharge prepaid, postpaid, data cards,dth, etc. online. It is headquartered in Mumbai. The cofounders of this venture are Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon.

  • Zomato:

Founded in India in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, Zomato has grown into a global restaurant search and discovery website and app, providing in-depth information for over 1.4 million restaurants across 22 countries.

  • Jabong.com:

Jabong.com is an Indian fashion and lifestyle e-commerce portal founded by Arun Chandra Mohan and Praveen Sinha, sells apparel, footwear, fashion accessories, beauty products, fragrances, home accessories and other fashion and lifestyle products. The company is headquartered in Gurgaon, NCR and was founded in 2012.

  • One 97 Communication:

One97 Communications is an Indian digital goods and mobile commerce platform founded in 2000 by Indian entrepreneur Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

  • Micromax:

Micromax is an Indian consumer electronics company headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana, India.  Micromax was established as an IT software company in the year 2000 and worked on embedded platforms. It entered the mobile handset business, and became one of the largest Indian domestic mobile handsets company operating in low cost feature phone segments by 2010. As of Q3 2014, Micromax is the tenth largest smartphone vendor in the world.

  • Hike:

Hike Messenger (stylized as hike messenger) is a cross-platform instant messaging service for smartphones that uses the internet for communication. In addition to text messaging, users can send each other graphical stickers, emoticons, images, videos, audios, files, voice messages, contacts and location. Hike was launched on 12 December 2012  and raised its first round of funding of $7 million from Bharti SoftBank in April 2013. Hike is a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Softbank.

  • iYogi:

iYogi is a remote technical support firm launched by Uday Challu and Vishal Dhar based in Gurgaon, India with customers in the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Canada, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and India. iYogi provides subscription based technical support for personal computers, connected devices and peripherals, and software applications. The company has a YouTube channel with videos explaining how to solve some technical issues. In 2011 the company introduced support for devices running mobile operating systems such as Apple’s IOS.

These are just few drops in the vast ocean of Startups that are coming up everyday.
