Chennai based, Freshdesk, has named Nishant Rao, LinkedIn India Managing Director, as its Chief Operating Officer. Rao will be responsible for all non Research and Development aspects of Freshdesk’s activities in each of its offices not just in India but across the globe. The transition from Linked in to Freshdesk will happen in November.
Nishant, at present in the Chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). He also is on the Advisory Board for the National Committee on Skill Development, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
His role at Freshdesk would include front office functions like sales and marketing as well as critical support functions like human resources, recruitment, facilities and public relations, among others, said the company. Nishant’s experience in scaling operations across global markets in LinkedIn will help Freshdesk’s executive team. Girish Mathrubootham, CEO and founder, Freshdesk said:

Nishant Rao did his bachelors in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. Post that he completed his MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He started his career as a founding member of Epicenter Technologies, India’s first voice-based call centre. Post which he has held several executive positions at Ariba(as a developer and development lead), McKinsey( as Senior Engagement Manager) and LinkedIn( as Director Business Operations and later as the Country Manager), Rao also held the position of a Board Member for TechCrunch India . Rao has been especially instrumental in increasing LinkedIn’s member base, enhancing the business essentially in India .
This has been an exciting year for Freshdesk- It raised a funding of around $50 million, acquired Social recommendation App – Frilp and worked hard and smart to increase its customer base to more than 50,000 customers in 145 countries.
