I find it very intriguing how technology is increasingly becoming the backbone of human interactions and also the fact that the same technology that has mostly minimized real life interactions can help people meet face to face as well. Yes, this is precisely what IIT-K alumni Layak and Kinshuk are doing with their startup Cogxio. It is an AI based online social dating & offline meeting platform to connect real people.
Bangalore based Cogxio was founded in 2014 by Layak Singh and Kinshuk Bairagi. This is not their maiden startup venture, the duo had in past co-founded estudyCorner.com, LivingStylish.com (a fashion and lifestyle e-magazine) and dateIITians.com (an Indian dating portal) while they were still in college. Cogxio is a mobile app that enables users to find interesting people hyper-locally, based on data driven decisions. The user who meet on the app start interacting immediately by expressing their crush or introducing themselves, they then plan based on intuitive interest based recommendations for food, dinner, movie, travel, venture, or event near to them and book instantly through the app itself, thanks to the Zomato Integation!
While talking to us about his startup, Layak says:
“With the new trend among youth to find their soul mate by themselves, we have just released a way to find real people in their city in real time and plan out together to actually meet in real life via app itself on the Go. The way it works is, two users connect as soon as they exchange 140 character tweet and henceforth can chat, plan to go out in real-life or the way they want the communication to be.”
After his post graduation in 2011 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Layak decided not to take up a corporate job, so he worked at a few startups before finally starting up a few ventures himself. Layak was also a 2014 Fellow at the Startup Leadership Programme in Bengaluru. He is passionate about solving the problem of human relationships through technology, sharing knowledge and real life interactions.
Kinshuk is the CTO at Cogxio. He keeps a critical eye on cross-browser compatibility issues and ensures quality throughout the organisation’s development processes. In the past he built multiple websites and custom applications, including web-based data gathering systems and full-blown mobile business systems.
Cogxio was incubated at 10000 startups in Bengaluru. Now bootstrapped, the startup is looking to raise funding to further accelerate its growth. It is currently focussed on a B2B model to generate revenues and to keep it free for the end user. The founders aim to close the loop after people decide to meet by recommending restaurants to them and monetising through the transactions or tie-ups with restaurants.
The app hits the nail on its head by tackling the 3 key issues that keep people away from dating apps- security, user experience and nothing to help plan dates. Cogxio currently includes a four-step verification process during the sign up. The app also has a feature to report spam and block annoying people. In addition, the app offers free access to relationship counselling, image makeover and profile consulting experts through their app and this will be possibly a channel for monetization going forward.
This free mobile app connects like-minded people in the wake of building a human relationship that goes beyond any biases. The feature enriched dating app help users to filter their interest location-wise, group-wise, find people online using GPS. The startups algo’s and machine learning techniques make it possible to map-recommend users. The app can be used not just by people who want to date, but also comes handy when you want plan out with your group of friends.
This team that currently has a headcount of 10 boasts of more than 35000 Total Registered Users, a Male-Female Ratio of 48:42, Over 60% of Monthly User Engagement and a Per Day Growth of 110%. The team is planning to introduce a iOS app in near future and focus on consumer behavior. It will be interesting to see how this duo innovates and markets further to make Cogxio the Tinder of India
