Roadhouse Hostels, a Goa based chain of backpackers’ hostel, has secured an undisclosed amount of investment from Indian Angel Network. The funding round was led by Ambarish Raghuvanshi and Vikas Kuthiala and will also be joining the board of the company.
Currently operational in Goa and Jaipur thee funding will be utilized by the startup to expand its properties to five more cities in future. It will also use money to build its brand, setup an extremely passionate team and infuse technology to support the venture.
Roadhouse was co-founded in 2014 by a group of three school friends – Uday Jhamb, Shubham Garg and Rajesh Borah with their first hostel starting its operations in Goa in November 2014. It offers air-conditioned dormitories with bunk beds and private rooms.
Uday Jhamb, Co-Founder at Roadhouse Hostels, said,
“We understand the needs of a traveller quite precisely and so we provide exactly the same look and feel of a place that they would prefer staying at. IAN is amazingly structured and has guided us extensively throughout the process. We look forward to a long and a fruitful association with them.”
They have a common room where the guests can unwind and share their experiences. It also offers a recreational room where a play-station, a fuss-ball table, and a pool table are pre-installed to let the travelers have the right amount of fun.
The startup is mainly focused areas include Safety, Comfort and Ubercool. For the company, security of their customers is a prime concern and so they have installed cameras and electronic entry for guests.
Commenting on the investment, IAN investor Ambarish Raghuvanshi said,
The backpacker space is seeing a lot of interest from founders and investors. However, the key will be to build an organisation model to replicate many such hostels and to deliver superior and consistent service. We invested when they had a hostel in Goa. They now have one in Jaipur.
More importantly, I feel that with their passion and complementary skills, they have a real chance to build an organisational structure that will help create a network and community of past and potential users. IAN takes an active role in the investments it makes and as a Lead Investor, I look forward to working with the team and the Co-Lead Investors (Vikas Kuthiala and Rajeev Arora) on this challenging and interesting idea.
