Blue Box Media has raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding led by Mahavir Pratap Sharma (founder and director of Oscar Exports) and Ajay Data (CEO of Data Infosys Ltd). The round also saw participation from existing investors Yogesh Chaudhary (director at Jaipur Rugs), Sanjay Phophaliya, Siddharth Agarwal (CEO of Silkasia) and Kamal Kothari.
Founded in 2011 by Pawas Jain and Deepanshu Khandelwal, Blue Box Media is the parent company which owns and operates two platforms – The Tech Portal and Springtide. The Tech Portal aims to create a never-seen-before visual platform for India’s surging youth, covering global technology and India’s surging startup ecosystem. Besides, it also shortlists startups and offers them opportunity to pitch to leading investors. Meanwhile, Springtide is a small online flipbook style magazine for young writers.
Pawas Jain said,
“We are creating shows like India’s First, 5-minute daily tech news show, called “The Bulletin” and ‘Startup Trek’, a web-based travel startup show (exploring startup ecosystems across 8 cities), among other new-age web shows.”
Yogesh Choudhary, director at Jaipur Rugs; Siddharth Agrawal, CEO of Silkasia; Puneet Mittal, co-founder of Pratham Software and Sanjay Yadav, founder of 100 Cofounders Lab had put in money in the company’s seed round in 2014. They all are the members of Rajasthan Angel Investor Network (RAIN).
The company will use the funding to expand its technology and editorial teams, and for marketing the mobile app of The Tech Portal. It will invest more into video content and for expanding into South East Asia going forward.
Blue Box Media is one of the more prominent startups from Jaipur. Its Tech Portal gets around three lakh page views every month and aims to reach a milestone of 10 lakh by end of this year.
