Snapchat which is on a diversification spree, has done away with its original name, to make way for the future. The company has dropped the “chat” part from its name to indicate its plans. The entity will now be know as “Snap Inc.” . The company also launched its camera-equipped ‘Spectacles, which are expected to go on sale in near future with a price tag of $129.99.
Snap Inc. Spectacles is a pair of glasses that is fitted with a 115-degree camera lens on the sides and will record a circular video, giving you a more real sense of the world we live in. The spectacles will come only in one fit-all size and will be available in three colors — black, teal and coral. Wall Street Journal article about the launch, states:
“Spiegel argues that rectangles are an unnecessary vestige of printing photos on sheets of paper. As you record, your hands are free to pet dogs, hug babies or flail around at a concert. You can reach your arms out to people you’re filming, instead of holding your phone up, as Spiegel describes it, “like a wall in front of your face.”
With the product you would no longer need to shove the phone in front of your face to record that perfect snap and capture the moment. You will just need to tap a button on the side of the glasses to start recording a 10-second video which will then sync wirelessly with your phone and is likely to be automatically uploaded to your ‘Snap Story’ at once.
Evan Spiegel in a conversation with Wall Street Journal said that:
“We’re going to take a slow approach to rolling them out. It’s about us figuring out if it fits into people’s lives and seeing how they like it.”
We also informed you above about the change in brand name, however, the company is not changing the name of the ‘Snapchat’, seeing the popularity among the target audience. The Snapchat app and the new ‘Spectacle’ glasses will now be under the umbrella of Snap Inc.
