As an entrepreneur, it’s exciting to go it alone and create something on your own. However, the reality is that, while you have a great idea, you may not know exactly what you should be doing with your business at which times to develop it into a sustainable business.
A mentoring relationship can give you an edge that differentiates you from your peers and/or your competition. You may be ready to make a career change or advance in your present career but something is holding you back. Wouldn’t you benefit from a relationship with someone who may provide knowledge, insight, support, guidance, and open doors for you?
Having a mentor can provide you with many advantages.
“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.”
So here are few reasons why we all must have a mentor in life .
1. Mentors Are Inspiring.
Those letters about starting a business also regularly include the following addendum: “I know I can be an entrepreneur, but cannot find the inspiration to get me into the garage, motivated to work 24/7.” In most cases, inspiration never comes from without; it always comes from within. Too often, “within” translates as an unresolved conflict in the theatre of the mind, acted-out and directed by a person who suffered systematic abuse by a parent.
2. A Mentor can prepare you well for challenges
Often, a seasoned mentor can challenge you to think in ways that never occurred to you because they’ve seen more of the world (and more of business) than you have. They’ve also been innovating and solving problems for a much longer time. They won’t have all the answers, but if you allow mentors to bolster your experience with theirs, you’ll be able to operate much more shrewdly and with more confidence than you otherwise would on your own.
3. To reach your potential
Knowledge lasts a lifetime and gives you the tools today to be better from now onwards. People who don’t learn tend to stand still and only have knowledge and experience from their past. Information from the past also poses the risk of becoming out-dated so arguably these people are in fact moving backwards! If you want the answer to how to reach your potential, then get a coach or a mentor and always have one. I’d expect to have made many more runs had I learned how to bat properly from a younger age.
4. Mentors help to push our limits up
Mentors push us past our limits. They prevent us from doing less with our lives than what we would if left unassisted. A true mentor reminds us never to be “average” with our pursuits.
If you don’t have a mentor, can you still find your element? Yes, you can but it is much easier if you have a wonderful mentor. Do you agree? Mentors open doors for us and get directly involved. They show us the next steps and encourage us.
5. Mentors can be a great source of encouragement
The mentor helps us believe that we can achieve what we believe to be out of our reach and impossible. Good mentors raise our sense of purpose and self-esteem.
