India is a land of diverse cultures and ethnicities. It is due to this diversities that we are home to various ethnic fashions. And one startup that is your one stop solution to all ethnic and festive fashion needs is Jivaana.
Jivaana is a Bangalore based startup founded in the year 2016 by Tina Chulet and fills an niche for designer ethnic-wear and showcases a strong product layout and service. New age ethnic brands like Jivaana are few and far between whereas new age western brands are available by the dozen, hence, they curate the products rather than showing hundreds of thousands of products like the biggies which are difficult to sift through. They offer consistent price points, and thus quality, rather than catering to the entire population of women.
Tina stepped out of home at the age of 18 to attend The Wharton School followed by management consulting at the age of 22. But the charm soon wore off when Tina realised she did not want to play it safe anymore. In 2008, she sold everything she owned and moved to New Delhi for a job with an international advisory firm – Endeavor – focused on young entrepreneurs. It was a time in her life when she could afford to give up her possessions in exchange for adventure and opportunity. Following her stint at Endeavor, she joined Suminter India Organics and then CitrusPay – both VC backed startups in India. She returned to the USA to complete her MBA at the Kellogg School of Management and after that ventured off on her own. Give her interest in entrepreneurship, she found India to have a nascent but bubbling industry in startups. It seemed like a good opportunity to stay here and start something on her own.
Jivaana began with a team of 4 people who had all previously worked on the dating app. The key players are Pinakee Biswas and Aarti Kapoor. Pinakee, Jivaana’s VP of Technology, is an IIT graduate with nearly 20 years experience as CTO and Chief Architect for various industries globally. Aarti Kapoor, the Chief Merchandiser, is the founder of a gourmet food website as well as an ex-banker. She graduated from SP Jain, Mumbai and complete her MBA in Singapore. Aside from these stars, we have a strong team of 15 people across functions like design, retail, technology, and operations.
Jivaana offers a wide mix of carefully-curated ethnic clothing, bright jewellery, bold accessories, and playful footwear that are perfect for your special occasions. Whether it’s a lunch with the ladies or a night-time sangeet, you can find something perfect for you.
